Milton H. Erickson: The Father of Modern Hypnotherapy

Hypnosis Network Tip: In Ericksonian Hypnosis, directive commands are not given to a subject. You won't hear an Ericksonian hypnotherapist tell you, "You are falling into a deep sleep." Instead, s/he will make suggestions like, "You could close your eyes now" or "You may be feeling sleepy." In this way, you remain in control of your trance. Your therapist acts a facilitator only.
